If you are using the Yahoo Geocities
Free plan or Yahoo PageBuilder and PageWizards to create
your web pages, please read this tutorial.
Otherwise, if you are using the Yahoo Geocities Plus/Pro
plan and Yahoo Site Builder or either FrontPage or Dreamweaver
to create your web page, please follow the tutorial for
Yahoo Site Builder, Frontpage
and Dreamweaver.
Step 1:
Use Yahoo PageBuilder or Yahoo PageWizards to create your
webpage, including the files needing protection.
Step 2:
View the webpage with Internet Explorer, then click Internet
Explorer menu "View->Source", and the source
code of the web page will open in Notepad.
Click Notepad menu "File -> Save As", and save
it as an HTML file with an ".html" extension.
Step 3:
Now you can use HTML Password Lock to password protect
this HTML file.
Launch
HTML Password Lock.
In
Step 1, click on the "Add file" button, browse
to the folder where the HTML file has been saved locally
on your computer, select the HTML file(s) you want to
protect, add the file(s) to the file list.
In
Step 2, define username and password. If this is the first
time you use the software, you can click on the "Next"
button to skip Steps 3 and 4, keeping the default options.
In
the Last Step, click on the "Lock" button. The
locked file will be listed on the file list.
Select
the file on the file list, double-click it or click on
the "Test" button to open it with your web browser
and test the password protection. If you opened the file
with Internet Explorer, click on the yellow alert bar
on top of the web page, select "Allow Blocked Content"
in the popup window, click on the "Yes" button.
For a detailed description of this step, please refer to Quick
Start.
Step 4:
Now that the HTML file has been locked, you can upload
the web pages to your web server via the "File Manager"
in Geocities control panel.
After a HTML file is protected, you cannot
edit the protected content with Yahoo PageBuilder or PageWizards
anymore, so the best solution is to save the locked HTML
file with a different filename, thus avoiding the needing
to overwrite the existing HTML file on your web server.
Select "Manage" panel, then click "Easy Upload":
Click
on the "Browse..." button to select the locked
HTML file, then click on the "Upload files" button
to upload the locked file to your web server.
