Working with Yahoo Site Builder
is very easy and is remarkably similar to working with FrontPage
or Dreamweaver. Follow the steps below and you will be able
to password protect a page designed with Yahoo Site Builder.
Step 1:
Use Yahoo Site Builder to create your web pages, including
those needing protection.
Step 2:
You will need to know the path where the site has been
saved locally on your computer, then you can use HTML Password
Lock to password protect the selected HTML file(s).
Launch
HTML Password Lock.
In
Step 1, click on the "Add file" button, browse
to the folder where the site has been saved locally on
your computer, select the HTML file you want to protect,
and add each one to the file list.
In
Step 2, define username and password. If this is the first
time you use the software, you can click on the "Next"
button to skip Steps 3 and 4, keeping the default options.
In
the Last Step, click on the "Lock" button. The
locked file will be listed on the file list.
Select
the file on the file list, double-click it or click on
the "Test" button, open it with your web browser
and test the password protection. If you open the file
with Internet Explorer, click on the yellow alert bar
on top of the web page, select "Allow Blocked Content"
in the popup window, and click on the "Yes"
button .
For a detailed description of this step, please refer to Quick
Start.
Step 3:
Now that the HTML file(s) have been locked, you can upload
them using the "Publish" feature in Yahoo Site
Builder.
You should NOT edit the locked
HTML file with Yahoo Site Builder any more.
When you open your site or try to edit the locked
HTML file in Yahoo Site Builder, it will display a warning
message, ". The page [filename ] was modified outside
of Yahoo Site Builder. It may fail to open properly. Continue?".
Just click on the "Cancel" button.
To edit the content of the locked file, first restore the
file to unlock it. After editing it, lock the file again.
For how to restore the locked file, please refer to How
to edit the content of a locked file?
